I have read most of Dent's books and enjoyed them. This is his weakest by far. I had high hopes, but was left vey disappointed.Dent made his name on demographics and his spending cycle, which are good tools for directionality but fail to match actual events. He tried to cover this by adding more cycles which stretches reality too far. I have a real problem with his supposed geopolitical cycle and his argument in the book is very poorly done. He has multiple pages of current negative events, but blows off the period of 1983 to 2000 by saying nothing bad happened; ignoring Beirut, Chernobyl, Columbine, Iraq invasion, Tinammen Square, etc. His innovation cycle is supported by some slight of hand that just shows the weakness of the basic argument. All he seems to have left is the sun spot cycle, with such a large time variation to negate its value and no real reason for it to have any effect. His long term cycles are even less credible.A recession is likely coming, but this book doesn't really present anything new for discussion. I expected so much more.

Just about finished with this book and really enjoyed it. Had read the one before this too. I then, out of curiosity, Googled "Harry Dent". You would not believe the number of articles on how many of his predictions have gone completely bust.I like his writing style and his level of confidence. I also like all the data he provides. I would take this book as "one more bit of data for your knowledge base" and not as the Bible as to where to put your money.

I felt like such a fool - I read this, believed it, and made the mistake of repeating some of the things from this book to some people who actually know things about finance and investing. When they found out where I got the ideas from, seriously, they almost wet their pants laughing at me. "Hoo hoooo - Carol bought a Harry Dent book! Hahahahaha!" Then I found out that he has written the same predictions with different dates for years. Years and years, in book after book. Nothing has ever come true the way Harry thought it would, but he is still selling books like crazy, to suckers like me. And like you, if you buy this book.

Harry creates a fear factor and then attempts to sell you his services to save the day. Old scare tactic that has been around for years. He already missed his prediction that the stock market bubble would bust the end of 2017. He does not know what triggers the bust and that is critical to forecasting markets. Book contains lots of historical graphs, but again hindsight is always a 100%. In general it is a good history of previous market busts, but I would not count on him to forecast future busts in a timely maner.

The Market cycles up & down eventually, simply wait and it will happen. This down trend was originally suppose to happen last year so this book HAD to be updated. The last chapter is only available online and it's a sales pitch for Dent's various newsletters. He has some interesting ideas. Do your own due diligence and you will grow your portfolio much better.

More of the same recycled predictions, of which I have yet to see any from prior books come to fruition anywhere near the timing stated.

Fascinating read but harry Dent spent 300+ pages defending his prediction and about 5 pages an action plan if he's correct. I'm glad it wasn't released to public until Jan. 2017 because for those who might have taken his advice in late 2016 would have missed out on the Q4 run up in the market after the election. I have read at least 2 of his earlier books and while I do believe there will be a correction in the market coming, it proves that no one, not even Harry Dent, can predict the future with certainty. Still an entertaining read though.

It’s fun to read self proclaimed experts when the book is around 2 years old. I hope nobody acted based on his recommendations. “ in 2017 the Dow will be down to 4,500” if you believed this and went to a cash position, you couldn’t ride the wave to 26,000 in 2017. It’s just a goood lesson about how you can’t believe these prognosticators.

Full disclosure:I recruited for the AVF for five years, I ran a preparation course for AVF military academy aspirants for five years and was a contract counselor for AVF members and their families at two major bases for five years.On my desk I have a plaque given to me by my sons upon the occasion of my return from six years in Vietnam:“For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste the protected will never know”If you are looking for J. N. Mattis aphorisms, truisms or witticisms, this is book is not for you. If you want a look at the operation of his “little grey cells” this will give you an insight into the thoughts of the contributors he edits regarding whom he says: “We chose the people we learn from.”What we have here is a Situation Report (SitRep) on the status of the greatest social experiment of our lifetime called “The All Volunteer Force”. I say greatest social experiment because what is at stake is the survival of our nation as we know it. Can this nation or any nation survive a continuum of internal and external threats protected by a mercenary armed force without a formal declaration of war? This tome gives a snap shot of one aspect as to the answer by addressing the question as to the current health of the relationship between the military and the civilian sectors of society.What seems to be missing is an evaluation of the impact of the political decision to selectively call up segments and individuals from the Reserve and National Guard communities to serve on active duty in the war zones. There are those who claim that one of the great failures of the Vietnam War was the decision to not activate the reserves and saddle the military with “Project 100,000” in an attempt to have a guns and butter society. This fainthearted approach satisfied no one. Forty years later we witnessed our neighbors silently disappearing for months and years at a time slipping off to war and then struggling to integrate back into the community and job with great difficulty. Qui bono?Additionally, we had myriads of service members serving joint duty in war zones with members trained in a manner totally different from them. In 2010 a senior combat officer remarked to me that the USMC could not function in the war zone without direct support of American sailors. He said: “You have more sailors ashore in the middle east in direct support of the USMC than you have on board commissioned ships!” [At that time we had about 300 ships of all kinds in commission.] What do those types of assignments do to unit cohesiveness, service identity and retention?The voices in this book are those that Shake and Mattis listen to which makes those voices worth our time to also listen and understand. After all you really get to know a person when you know what it is they are reading and to whom they are listening in addition to understanding that which they are thinking.Good read. Better to think about.I close with a Mattis thought lest you be too disappointed:"You cannot allow any of your people to avoid the brutal facts. If they start living in a dream world, it's going to be bad."

It is edited by Jim Mattis, now Secretary of Defense, and Dr. Kori Schake, who served at the White House, Department of Defense, and State Department. In 2017, Schake is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution.One of the themes in their introduction is a narrative for the individual chapters, “Choosing war is the business of elected politicians in America; fighting war is the business of our military.” But not so fast. One of the contributors suggests there must be interplay between the civilian and military, so the two can enhance the national interest. And within the executive branch, there needs to be recognition that civilian control of the military requires each side to know the other’s perspective.This situation is like a civil-military version of the chicken-and-egg problem. At issue is what comes first. Civilians in the executive branch want to give the president a sense of options; without knowledge of constraints and standard operating procedures of the military, however, the process can spiral into uncharted waters. With little comprehension of the complexities of military planning and operations, senior civilian leaders may overestimate military capabilities, such as establishing a safe zone to protect Syrians and other unfolding situations.Per a contributor, “Without political and strategic direction from the White House (How much money are we willing to spend? How many troops are we willing to move? What trade-offs are we willing to make in terms of other ongoing operations? What constitutes success?), military personnel could not properly advise their civilian counterparts.”The “what comes first issue” remained unresolved in the book. Let’s hope this issue is resolved for the first crisis bubbling up—establishing a safe zone in Syria. An inexperienced White House team of President Trump faces a seasoned military under its Secretary of Defense Gen. Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford.Responding to the idea of establishing safe zones in Syria, Chairman Dunford testified before Congress in September 2016 that, “For us to control all of the airspace in Syria, it would require us to go to war against Syria and Russia, [and] that’s a pretty fundamental decision that certainly I’m not going make.” In late January 2017, President Trump decided to establish safe zones in a Syria to the consternation of military planners. Joint American-Russian airstrikes conducted in late January, however, could mitigate the risks, so long as the ceasefire holds.The bottom line? The Mattis-Schake volume is a riveting window into an uncertain future in civil-military relations that continues to unfold as breaking news each day. There were a lot of classic vows and some more original, but this book was not very helpful for the wedding I was helping plan.Judith Johnson's "The Wedding Ceremony Planner: The Essential Guide to the Most Important Part of Your Wedding Day" was perfect for our needs, however. Everyone was raving about the beautiful cerermony =)

I've used this book in the weddings I have performed in the past, and used it again for an upcoming one. Glad to have it, it's a nice tool to help out with writing the ceremony.

There are also many interesting insights into how the Palace functions and how the machinery that drives the monarchy operates.An amazing number of the more than 200 sources agreed to be named (though about 40 did not); there was some cooperation from the Palace; and a number of previously private personal papers and correspondence were made available. There are almost 100 pages of acknowledgments, source notes, bibliography and index.Given the richness and abundance of the material, Bedell-Smith, more or less, lets the sources tell the story with only minimal input and interpretations on her part. Some opinions do show through, such as the belief that Prince Phillip is more human than usually perceived and Diana more emotionally damaged (maybe even suffering from mental illness) than usually believed.While, obviously, all members and generations of the Royal family form part of the Queen's story, the biography is very scrupulously Elizabeth II-centric. All others seem to exist only as her relatives and people who impact her life. Prince Charles and Prince William are the only two exceptions as they are the people who are expected to step into her shoes. I found this to be among the more fascinating parts of the book. The contrasts between the styles and personalities of the Queen and her heir are striking and, though they share a sense of duty and dedication, the differences don't promise a seamless transition (especially in the areas of discretion and humility).The author makes valiant attempts at objective scholarship, but a basic fondness and respect comes through her words. Still, she manages to portray the Queen as a human being, not a larger than life heroine. She is simply a human being uniquely disposed by training, experience, and character to maintain the balance between historical tradition and modern relevance--and to do so with more heart and a better mind that she is usually credited with.I had read an excerpt of this book in Vanity Fair and had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed and don't think you will be either.

It seems to me that Amazon has mistakenly mashed together the reviews of two different books. If you look at the reviews for this book, half of them are for a book about Elizabeth I and half of them are reviews of a book about Elizabeth II written by a wholly different author. Please fix this Amazon!

In truth, there are very few people in this world whom I admire as much as I do Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I have read many books and seen many movies, documentaries and other films, and this book was one of my favorite to read. I find that this book paints a larger yet more defined picture of the longest reigning Queen in British history. HM the Queen is so much more than what many people might believe. Being an Englishman, living among Americans, I've found that from a lot of their points of view, as with many, from the outside looking in HM seems to be not much more than a rather pointless figurehead, an echo of a no longer relevant institution. With that being said, I would most certainly recommend this book, and other books like it as it helps to give a deeper and more dynamic picture of a likewise Queen and institution which she serves.

While I am not into Royalty and see them as an anachronism, I found it very interesting to find the public person so very different than from her private self. The history of her reign, the succession of prime ministers and their relationships with her, follows what I witnessed from afar and was therefore very interesting reading. I am about 10 years her junior and remember the fairy tale wedding, tempered by recent wartime restrictions, and a few years later the coronation with the usual pomp and circumstance.Later on I lived in London for a while and saw her (again, from afar) on several occasions, and she was indeed a very pretty young woman. It was then still the custom to stand up when she appeared on a screen, even in one's own living room.The book is well written but obviously the author is totally smitten with her, rarely finding anything negative to say - understandable since the Queen is still alive, But let's face, nobody is perfect.Whether or not the British people will continue to tolerate the enormous expense of supporting not only their Monarch's household but those of her children and grandchildren, remains to be seen.To sum up, I found the book very interesting reading revealing a private person of great appeal, someone I could really like. But, as is often asked: Why can't she smile more in public?

Great book. The many arduous duties of a monarch are shown with empathy and in great detail. Gives us a good picture of a life well lived, and a woman who puts Duty to her country and her role first, yet manages to maintain a stable family life, within the boundaries of the things she is able to control. There are some factual errors: I have heard people who were at events author descr8ibed recount different truths as they saw and experienced them. Perhaps her sources at some points weren't good. Still a great read.

I was very disappointed. This book doesn’t really tell you anything you didn’t already know about Elizabeth. She is a very discreet person who unexpectedly became Queen and does a marvelous job. She was a very absentee, distant parent but now gets along with her children. Her greatest loves are Phillip, horses and corgis. I find it hard to believe that everyone she has ever had dealings with loves her but the author thinks so. If Elizabeth were running for office, they could release this as a campaign bio!

A very lengthy but interesting book detailing the reign of Queen Elizabeth. I really enjoyed reading this book and learned so much about The English Commonwealth and the Monarchy. GreT book if you are a history buff!
