Concise and conversational, Melissa Maker, whom I didn't know existed until I heard her as a guest on episode #39 of Young House Love Has a Podcast entitled How to Make House Cleaning Suck a Little Less, which I'm all for.I am not terribly into sitting around and watching videos like that. I can watch a few, but a whole series? Nah. So, I promptly downloaded a sample of this book, and liked it so much that I got the Kindle version. And now, after spending a day cleaning my oven and oven racks per her instructions, I feel the need to order the hardcover. I imagine it being like Molly Weasley hunting for how Gilderoy Lockhart suggests to properly de-gnome your garden.Containing both DIY cleaner recipes and thoroughly detailed cleaning instructions, room-by-room, and a table/chart in the back (or downloadable via a link provided by the publisher in the Kindle version), I found this to be a modern day How-to book properly in line with my expectations.

Who'd of thought someone could actually make cleaning something that wasn't right up there with having your fingernails ripped out? I'm halfway through the book, which is an amazingly easy read, and actually, dare I say, can't wait to get cleaning. I put a bit of what I gleaned from last nights' reading into practice today at work, and did an unassigned portion of our departmental cleaning. It was quite a large undertaking, but I started at the top of my project, and worked my way down. In fact, it went so well, I cleaned the same area in another room. Hah! Who'd of thought?! Love the book, the author, and all of the techniques therein. Glad I took the leap and bought the book. Worth every dime. And then some.

GREAT buy. I follow Melissa on her YouTube channel and decided to get the book. I was not disappointed. It expands on the information on the channel. I have struggled for years to stay on top of my house cleaning and this book has given me the know how to develops routines that work for me. Also like the natural recipes for cleaning products. I have bought several other books on cleaning and this is by far the best.

Melissa isn't one of those people who think everyone will love cleaning as much as she does. In fact, she hates it as much as I do! As a chronic migraine sufferer, a busy full-time working mother of two, and having a husband with limited mobility due to health issues, it's hard to find the time and motivation to clean. I've been a fan of her YouTube channel for years, and watching her methods has definitely cut down on the time and effort I've had to put into cleaning. Using the techniques, tools, and DIY cleaners she lays out in her videos, website, and book, I now find myself putting in half of the time and effort for a beautifully clean space, rather than a mediocre job for twice the time and effort I was putting in before.Also, I can't praise her DIY cleaners enough. Thanks to those, I no longer have to worry that the fumes from what I'm using will trigger a three-day migraine. I have found myself time and time again going back to her YouTube channel and her website to look up DIY recipes I need for a specific task.Do yourself a favor and subscribe to her YouTube channel! You'll see her methods in action, which helps if you're a visual learner. Not only are the videos informative, but she has a wonderfully warm and cheerful personality, and she and her husband Chad will definitely make you laugh as you find yourself getting motivated. My next purchase? Melissa's own brand, Maker's Microfiber Cloths!

Excellent and easy read with a cookbook feel. I learned alot and my home never looked better. The cleaning recipes also helped cut down on my cleaning supply budget! Less time cleaning and more money is all a win for me. I also really liked reading her notes in the book and watching the youtube video to follow along for some more visual help! An excellent investment for a packrat like me!

I really love this book. It is very organized and easy to follow. Melissa's tips on cleaning are for me, eye opening. I never thought about the tricks and methods she explained in her book and they have made a huge difference in my house. I am no longer buying any store bought cleaners. I make my own. I invested in some essential oils. That was the only really expensive items to buy. So I'm saving money and my house is sparkling clean from top to bottom! S-pattern! Oh Ya!! Thank you Melissa Maker!!

Glad I picked this book up on a preorder. I follow Melissa on her YouTube channel and when I found out she made a book, I had to buy it. This book is easy to follow and contains great tips and cleaning supply recipes/recommendations for products that are not super harmful to use around the home. This book is my cleaning bible and I'm sure I will continue to reread it as time goes by! Buy it and you won't regret it!

I finished reading in one night, started my routines the next day! It's definitely making improvements on my home and I don't completely hate cleaning now!

This is well researched and written study of "survivors" of the Titanic, before there was such a thing as a diagnosis of PTSD. It makes for very interesting reading although tragic in many cases. The book chronicles the lives of many of the survivors of the Titanic long after the ship went down. I had no idea that 10 survivors committed suicide in the years after the ship wreck. This book takes any "romance" out of the Titanic story....this was a tragic event that scarred the survivors for the rest of their lives long before there was counseling and antidepressant drugs. Well worth the time to read.......

I give this five stars because I don't typically read many books, finishing only one or two per year (sadly) yet I can't put this one down.There are many "Titanic" books that describe what happened. Very few books focus on what make the Titanic story so enduringly interesting from the moment it happened to today, 100 years later: which is the people. This book rectifies that.The unique take of this author is to use the disaster as a launching point to look at something more: how a small selection of a representative cross section of interesting people dealt with the tragedy as it happened, after it happened, and how it shaped their destiny and others' long after the trial was over. And, most interestingly for me, the author draws out the most interesting lessons from these characters that allow me to better understand humanity and how I might be a petter participant in life by comparing my own character to that of these interesting people he unpacks for our consideration.I think this is why the movie,Titanic, was so popular really. The disaster itself was the movie's backdrop for a love story between two specific, interesting people, selected at random from the top and bottom classes, (Jack and Rose) whose lives were simply proxies for us all. We, then, imagined what it must have been like to live in those times, and how we would have behaved if similarly tried on the cold, pitching deck. The book is similar in this regard. I found myself caring about the characters the author chose for study.A most fascinating read. The stories are meticulously researched and interesting. The details, conclusions and lessons the author draws throughout each individual story are the heart and soul of this book.

I think everyone knows the story of the Titanic, but I never knew much about the people who survived the sinking. It was interesting to learn about the randomness in who survived and who didn't. The book gives survival stories of several passengers and details the life changing effects of their survival. The thing that surprised me the most was how so many of the survivors went on to lead very unhappy lives. Some had survivor guilt, some were villified by the press, some were villified by other passengers who assumed they knew how events unfolded. The media was often so desperate to get a story that facts were the least of their concerns. They published the most amazing misinformation as if it was gospel and the subjects of their stories were tried in the court of public opinion. The story of Mrs. Astor was particularly sad. I had always assumed that John J. was a noble and decent man until I learned about his horrible will. This book details the ripple effect that that the sinking of the Titanic had on so many lives. For instance, think about what it was like for those passengers that were on the Carpathia when hundreds of traumatized, greiving women and children suddenly became their shipmates for the three days it took them to get to New York. There were times that the book dragged a little when it seemed like the author was stuck on the details of one individuals life, but all in all it was very interesting and well worth reading.

These were interesting stories on the gates of those who survived the tragedy of the Titanic. I was appal lo ed to learn that some able board were discharged with as few as 6 people on board. Other comments: "saved a pressed powder compact" or trying to.use class designation for preferred treatment of mourning the loss of fine silk clothing. Unfortunately, some saved their lives only to exist in a living death. Some stories ( Dorothy Gibson) were too long and intricate, more than the character deserved. Enjoyed the photos. Thank you.

Marian Thayer trying to communicate with her late husband through mirror writing. Full details regarding the company scandals and suicide of Washington Dodge. The feud between survivors Lady Duff Gordon and Rene Harris. Edith Russell's many attempts to involve herself in every, single Titanic project. Madeleine Astor's tumultuous marriage to an abusive younger man. And so on...The author also shows the troubles among researchers, which is illustrated in a lawsuit over who owned the kimono supposedly worn by Lady Duff Gordon. Trouble among researchers could be a book within itself.As with any book of this size and scope, there are a few cross-checking errors, but they do not detract from the overall content. This book is a must-have!

A month after Christmas and this book/toy is still going strong! It is an endless source of glee for my 8 year old son. He even cleans up after himself and finds all the little paper bolts he made where ever they flew, because he loves using this thing so much he doesn't want to lose any of them. This is the penultimate perfect Christmas or birthday gift for an 8-14 year old boy or girl. Adult friends would love this too, although the text inside might be a bit aimed towards kids.

This is a neat book, my 8 year old son loves it. The arrows are only paper and there’s nothing to store them in, but all in all it’s a cool book.

Bought it for Christmas for my 7 year old nephew. He loves it! The price is amazing!

The only downfall is that this book doesn't include practice tests, but are include in the publisher's ISEE Practice book. Overall, it's the most comprehensive Math Review for the ISEE, but it's on the pricier side.

This obscure work was the first book I ever read about Artificial Intelligence. I was enthralled. As a child just on the cutting edge of the computer generation explosion this book captured my attention and held it throughout. I'm surprised that this book is not more well known. It's well written, factual (for the time), emotive, and just a great story!

Love this book!

Ariel by André Maurois is a fictionalized biography of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822). Shelley, the son of a wealthy landowner, went to school at Eton, where he was bullied. He was expelled from Oxford for publishing a pamphlet called The Necessity of Atheism. His father was enraged when he heard about this pamphlet, and this caused him to break off relations with his son; the two of them were never reconciled. Shelley married 16-year-old Harriet Westbrook, a friend of his sisters, rescuing her from a bad situation at home and school. But Harriet was not his intellectual equal, and their marriage was very unhappy. While still married to Harriet, Shelley fell in love with Mary Godwin, the daughter of his mentor, the philosopher William Godwin, and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, who died giving birth to her. Shelley left his wife and lived with Mary, which caused a huge scandal in society. Godwin would have nothing to do with the couple, even though he relied on Shelley to pay his debts. Harriet eventually committed suicide over her husband’s affair, even though, according to Maurois, she had suicidal tendencies all her life. Shelley and Mary married, and Godwin forgave them, but pretended they had not been living together for several years.Their troubles were far from over, though. A court refused to give Shelley custody of his two children by Harriet. He had several children by Mary, but all but one died as babies or small children. The couple spent much of their time in Italy, where Mary’s stepsister Claire lived with them. Claire had a brief affair with Lord Byron and gave birth to a daughter, but she really loved Shelley, and Mary became jealous. Maurois believes that the relationship between Shelley and Claire was innocent, but others disagree. Shelley died by drowning when his boat, the Ariel, sank. His poetic genius was never recognized during his lifetime, unlike that of his friend Byron, whose poems were the bestsellers of their time. Mary Shelley, of course, became the author of Frankenstein, but Maurois does not talk about Mary as an author, or even say much about Shelley’s poetry; the focus is on their relationship. But his book provides a very good introduction to Shelley.

Wild and wonderful this book is, and on the jacket it claims (rightfully) that Maurois "created in this book an authentic and memorable style, which established a new form of dramatic biography." It was written in 1924 and I discovered it in 2005 on a long meditation/contemplation retreat in southern Spain, so the conditions, while not predicable, were perfect.If you're intrigued by Percy Shelley, and Mary Shelley, and Byron … trust me, these are glorious pages.

This was one of the first books related to computers, much less Artificial Intelligence, that I ever read. It's excellent. Interesting story, personal drama, technical details, a precocious teen tied in just enough to not make it all about him, espionage, etc. And let's not forget Ariel herself... an AI that makes you WANT AI NOW.I have gone thru 3 copies of the paperback edition of this book, and probably re-read it over 200 times in the 25+ years since I first received it. I can't say enough about it, grab a copy for yourself and your own children, and let them wonder what would make AI possible.Every time I finish this book, I'm smiling.

This book shows how Versailles during its glory days is still influencing fashion and the Arts today. It is loaded with colorful photographs - some rare, such as Axel de Fersen's gorgeously embroidered coat (in remarkably near flawless condition). This particular book was printed in Spain and the quality is high - far better than books printed in China (Rizzoli & Assouline). Any Francophile who admires pre-revolutionary French style and great modern interpretations of that era - such as the film, "Dangerous Liaisons" should not hesitate to buy this book. The editor could have left out the photo's of Coppola's fiasco Eurotrash film, "Marie Antoinette" and a hideous modern art mechanical big bird displayed in the halls of Versailles, but the good most definitely outweighs the bad. I was happy to see b&w photo's from the exquisite 1930's Norma Shearer film, "Marie Antoinette" and the rare Du Barry film (lost?).

This book is a visual feast. The clothing, jewelry, perfume, decor, art, and illustrations presented are well-curated in this edition and a must for your collection. I own a treasure trove of art, design, and fashion books and was delighted that this book did not contain the usual re-hashed images. The print quality is excellent and there is a nice chronology at the end of the book.

Saw this book while visiting Versailles- loved it but did not want to have to carry it home. Happy to find online. Lots of lovely pictures that highlight both fashion & the beautiful rooms & gardens of Versailles. Nice for the price, doesn’t have a jacket cover, the picture in the volume is printed on the cover, which doesn’t look as nice as a glossy jacket cover, but that’s just my personal preference

Fantastic coffee table book!
