Really good basic, but through intro book about beekeeping. I wasn't expecting much from a "for dummies" book but I'm happily eating my words.I'm researching everything I need to know about starting and caring for a hive for work. We run an organic farm and I ordered this and 3 other beekeeping books. I started with The Backyard Beekeeper, but left it at home so cracked this one the other day at work. It's so easy to read and written in a way that makes me want to keep reading. I finished it in less than 24hours. I feel like I have a good foundation to jump from, and the other books will be easier to read now that I'm familiar with the subject.Information is presented clearly. Standard practice as well as the author's personal suggestions, but always reminding the reader that learning the traditional methods is important yet we'll develop our own styles as time goes on. Pick what works best for us.

This book was recommended by my local bee association, and I can see why. The book has everything a beginner would need to know. Great pictures, very descriptive. Anyone looking to get started in beekeeping should read this book.

This book (the 2015 edition) is very informative for the new or aspiring beekeeper. (that would be me) I attended several all day workshops locally on beekeeping and both instructors highly recommended this book. Both are beekeepers with over 50 hives each. As to some of the negative comments, both instructors and several local beekeepers warmed me that beekeepers can be very opinionated as to the one and only true and righteous way to keep bees. (their particular way of course is the way) That seems to be the thread in some of the negative comments here. My suggestion is to use this as one more source of information to make your informed decisions.

I knew I need bees for the pollination of my apples and blue berries but I knew very about bee keeping until I read this book. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interesting in bees. I found it well organized and easy to read even for someone like me who knew almost nothing about bee keeping. Reading this book saved me money from not buying cheap used equipment and has helped me not to make a lot of mistakes. I thought it was excellent book to prepare someone like me who has no back ground in bee keeping.

Great book. Warning to those who read.. you will be buying beekeeping equipment and bees! After reading it, I was confident enough to join a local beekeeping club/association, take a class or two, and buy equipment and order bees. Can't wait to start my new hobby (come on May!). Well written, great advice, very good illustrations. Highly recommend if you have ever been interested in beekeeping (or making Mead!)

His is a great book for beekeepers at any stage! I’m a brand new beekeeper and this book was recommended by my mentor who has been keeping bees for decades!!! It is easy to read and packed with information!!! Literllly everything you need to know and it's written in a way that is very encouraging! This book helps me work through the aspects of beekeeping that make me nervous. I’ve taken numerous notes from it and use it frequently as a reference to the things I’m discovering going on inside and outside my hive.

Written for nutritionists and medical professionals by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), this book is a detailed reference for diabetes nutrition therapy. I am not a medical professional, but as a technically oriented person, I have found patient references on diabetes disappointing. This book provides an excellent summarization of the research and detailed practices for diabetes nutritional therapy. Most of the section authors carry Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator (RD and CDE) certification. Chapter topics make it easy to find the specific information that I need to deal with particular diabetes issues. Additionally, I have found the ADA's "Medical Management of Type 2 Diabetes" to be a highly useful reference.I purchased the Kindle version to add to my diabetes bookshelf that includes food nutrition reference books. The Kindle is a wonderful tool, as it allows me to carry a virtual bookshelf of diabetes information to help me be an informed participant in my care.

This is a great book about the rise and fall of a shopping center bank and how it affected money center banks such as Continental Illinois and Seattle First National. As a banker who began is career after 1982 it was good to read this bit of bank history. If we do not know our history we are doomed to repeat it.

Just finished this title. I was disappointed with the book for a couple of reasons: it is the story of Penn Square mostly only through its takeover by the FDIC. Very little on the aftermath except in the most general terms. Almost no detail about the criminal legal outcomes and no 'where are they now'.My other bitch is that I don't feel that the financial instruments and deal structures were explained in enough detail to allow the layman to grasp the full nature and implications of what was going on. Now I have a business education (non-practicing accountant) but I still didn't grasp the structures of most of the deals as described. I know an author walks a fine line in attempting to explain this stuff without boring the audience but I know it can be done. I have read several books on the most recent banking debacle and the instruments and structures were infinitely more complicated and yet I've seen them presented and explained in such a way that most laymen can understand.So, in summary, I expected much more of a history than I found in this book. The subsequent collapse of Continental Illinois was a major event that changed the landscape of finance in Chicago to this day and it was given very short shrift in in this tome.

I was there during Penn Square's last year of existence. As an officer brought in to help turn the bank around, I saw first hand what Phil so adeptly portrays in this great book. His rendition of the bank's story is accurate and the principles he derives from the bank's failure still hold true today. If you want to find out how to ruin a perfectly good bank, read Belly Up and do what the board and executive officers of Penn Square Bank did. I highly recommend Phil's book. His writing style is very easy to read yet he can make a point very effectively. His insights into the factors contributing to this world famous bank failure are right on target. Great book!!

Best book I have read on what really happened in 1982. I live here. I lived it. Should be required reading for any college banking classes.

if you are looking for an in-depth guide to the sights in Dublin, this is,not the book you want. Very superficial treatment of what to do and see in Dublin. The book is padded by throwing in short blurbs on “top 10” in other regions. A waste of money.

This was a great buy!! I intend on buying this brand for my trip to other European countries. I bought it for a study abroad trip to see what fun things i could do during my free time. Not only did it hold up on a 9 day trip around Ireland, the map in the back is waterproof and held up wonderfully even in the rain! Buy it and you won’t regret it! 🇮🇪

I like lists. Lots of lists. I like to write things down and check them off. It makes me happy. So this book made me happy. Its full of the most helpful lists you can think of and great descriptions of places to go. The front page has a small fold out map and the back has a larger fold out map. I had only 8 days to see everything and feel that thanks to the top 10 lists spent my time as well as I could have.

I bought this as the main preparatory book for the 1Z0-061 exam, I must say I'm very disappointed with this book as it misses out on lots of information required for the exam. fetch, offset,listagg, negative precision in number data type etc. Its however a good resource for newbies without prior exposure to SQL. Overrall, don't purchase for certification purposes. Try Biju Thomas book.

I found this book very lacking. It does not mention any of the "fetch first" clauses or topics like "extract" and completely glosses over the sorting rules for null. All of which were on the actual exam. Rounding with negative precision and the number data type are not covered in depth enough. The practice test was a complete joke and way to easy. You come out of the practice test thinking you are on sound footing only to discover you have a long way to go. Passing is actually a 65, not 75 like the test thinks. This book is a fine start but don't use it as your only prep material for the exam. Make sure you purchase other manuals and products if you want to pass on the first try.

Suppose you were 16 years old and getting your driver's license for the first time. You apply to the DMV, and they send you a transportation rulebook. You buzz through the book, you ace the end-of-chapter questions and easily pass the officially sanctioned practice exam included with the officially approved study materials.Then you take the test and find that a substantial chunk of the questions are about things that were not covered in the book, and that most of the questions are not simple "pick one" questions of the practice test but "pick two/three/all correct answers of five" which eat up time like nothing, and that for some of these, there are more correct answers (proven by actually trying the hypotheticals in question) than are provided.I suspect I'm going to get a bunch of Oracle apologists on my case right about now, yammering about how of course it's hard, they can't just hand out certificates willy-nilly. Or that I'm bitter because I failed the test and am just venting.It is true that I failed the test and am venting, which means that this review should be considered more accurate, not less, for the simple reason that I actually took the test and thus am in the best position to judge whether this book was adequate preparation. The test asks several questions about the FETCH FIRST functionality which was nowhere in the book. It asks several questions about LISTAGG which was nowhere in the book. When working through this book, I tended to either get 100% of the end-of-chapter questions correctly, or miss literally one or two at most. When doing a blind run through the included practice test (that is, I finished working through the chapters and decided to take it without reviewing previous notes), I scored an 85%. All of this translated to a 55% on the actual exam. Think about that, an 85% on the OFFICIAL PRACTICE EXAM = 55% on the ACTUAL exam. At best, somebody was sleeping at the wheel when the practice materials were created, and at worst, it's nothing but an additional revenue stream for Oracle.The test should be challenging and thus require you to have a solid grasp of the material, not cause you to fail by asking you questions that were not in the official material. That's not a certification, that's a con.Edit: also, the instructions to actually setting up the sample DB are nonexistent. Not even the other book on 12c, Installation and Administration, gives you any idea. I had to search for this youtuber (RebellionRider) whose channel had a tutorial that did in 10 minutes what several chapters in the book could not.

I think the information presented is laid out in such a way to teach the material easily and efficiently. I have read several SQL books (mostly from O'Reilly) and believe this to be a good foundation and as good as if not better than the best ones they have to offer. The concepts were all known, but I still found myself learning and it gives wonderful tips on what to expect and how to adjust your thinking for the exam. I am very happy with this purchase all around and hope that books for subsequent books are put together as well as this one.

Beautifully written, Lucy Cooke tells the tales of animals and the indignities suffered at the hands of early scientists in their attempt to understand them. I read parts of the book to my 10th grade Biology students and they loved it.

After 14 years as a zoo docent I still didn't appreciate the extent of the camouflage used by sloths to protect themselves. They look, smell, and move like part of the tree they inhabit; but you've gotta read the book to really appreciate the extremes involved. Same things for the other creatures. Truly an eye-opening excursion into the lives of our wild neighbors.

One of the most interesting and informative books I have read in a long time. Extremely well written and enjoyable. I strongly suggest you buy it as I think you will like it.

So fascinating, educational and detailed. The author also captures humor and warmth. I devoured every chapter and will read it again. I can only hope there will be a sequel.
