The introduction of birdbrained Papi, the harpy, adds a lot to the story. (Actually introduced in Vol. 1, but makes a bigger impression here.) She's the most human-like of the monster girls, is straightforward in personality, is reasonably proportioned (see earlier review in vol. 1), and kinda dumb. But nice. Her innocent and uninhibited personality makes for good comedy. I don't care for Cerea the centaur. Her proportions (that is, boobs) are beyond ridicule, almost sad. Supposedly the stiff, well mannered motherly type, she's just a downer.Next we meet the illegal alien jelly girl whose name (of course) is Suu. Why are manga artists fascinated with this name? Suu doesn't speak Japanese, or possibly not at all, but she is the weirdest yet. All the "monster girls" are supposed to be girls, but I have my doubts about Suu. In her first meeting with the crew, she violates all the other girls chastity, but in a hilarious way.This manga is edgy, pushing my boundaries with unanticipated semi-erotic situations. This is also part of it's charm. It is lighthearted and not seriously hentai. The male protagonist Kimihito keeps his cool and threads the needle, lots of tension but no consummation or heartbreak. By its own lights, it is a innocent harem style roma-com. With a heavy dose of fan service.

Poor Kimihito, just when he was starting to get used to having three lovely monster girls under his roof, their handler throws a new wrinkle and suggests that he marries one of the three, be it magnificient Miia, precocous Papi, or curvacous Centora. But the news does not come at a good time, as the full moon in hanging high and all three girls are feeling their "animal" instincts. Now he has to deal with making a big decision, deal with Miia's reptilian nature when she needs him to help her, and learn more about the monster world and the creatures in it - or he might not even MAKE it to the altar.this story picks up right where the last one ended and does not let up. With each story comes new developments, new characters (especially the lovable Suu), and more problems for our poor host hero. And unlike other series, he knows all three of the girls care for him and love him in their own ways and he does come up with a solution to the problem showing that he has a brain as well a good heart. A series like this should get an anime series going and if so I will have to buy it when it comes over to the states. I can not wait for the next book to see what happens next.

We're all here for the same reason. You don't actively look for a Monster Musume book for no reason. Unless maybe you're buying it as a gift for a friend that likes the series. I like Monster Musume and my friends look at me like "Yup, that's our weird anime lover."Content-wise: I loved the book.Physically: Book was sharp, clean, not sun-bleached.

Well got to say its still awesome about this book monster girls comedy a lot and of course talking and seeing what everyday monster girl are doing. Ms smith asking them to marry one of those three but in the end probably a harem. Well to think miia cooking is bad but nasty. The slime just arrive and they name is suu she will be awesome the slime but yeah this book here is good and great.

Being the second book of the series things pick up right where we left our hero; in trouble. These half monster half girls are nothing but problems. Yet he still tries to make them feel welcome in the human world. With the subject of a possible marriage on their minds the girls get aggressive. Overall a funny spin on the cliche harem comedy you see in manga. Some corny translation puns, but forgivable overall. Can't wait for the next book.

And really, when it comes to serialized stories, isn't that the bottom line? Do you want to continue? Yes, sometimes the fan service can be a bit tedious, but this isn't the first series that I felt that way about. But I like the premise, the story-telling and the artwork. When I put down this volume, I was definitely wishing I had vol. 3 available.

Dr. Lester Tenney authors this firsthand account of the fall of Bataan during WWII and its horrific aftermath. The daily barbaric and sadistic lawlessness was so rampant and prolific, that I found portions of this book just unbearable and quite difficult to read -- albeit I did. Dr. Tenney and his allied comrades endured 3 and half years of sadistic treatment, torture and systemic starvation. This heinous and cruel barbaric treatment was doled out at the whim of his Japanese captors. Lester also provides for some grim statistics: 55,000 personnel died while in defense of the Philippines, providing for a 2:1 ratio; that is two deaths for every one survivor. Just on the Bataan Death March alone, of the 60,000 Filipinos and 12,000 Americans that began their 68 mile forced march, only 7,500 would live to see the end of that horrendous war... of that number approximately 1,500 survivors were American.I really enjoyed the last few chapters of this book, as it dealt with Lester's physical/emotional liberation and his subsequent acclimation back into the civilian world. His optimistic outlook is what kept him going day-in and day-out of being brutally beaten and starved for the duration of the war, (his prewar weight was 185 lbs. and postwar weight was 101 lbs.). It seemed that no matter what his captors did to him he would press on and roll with the punches. Truly this was his second nature, and a life lesson that he used during and after the war.I've been fortunate to visit, (in peacetime), Bataan, Corregidor, and Camp O'Donnell, and can only imagine the depths of what you endured. Dr. Tenney I salute you and your comrades.

In my junior year at Arizona State University in 1970, Mr. Tenney (now Doctor Tenney) came into my insurance introductory class and said something to the effect: Twenty five years from now you will not remember any of your professors or classes taken her at ASU. However, there will be one or two that will have impacted your life and you remember them and their name. My name is Lester Irwin Tenney and I accept the challenge to be one of those persons. I retired in September, 2016 after working in the insurance industry for 44 years. I was in his class my senior year when he received his doctorate degree. WHAT a man. Being only 20 years old at the time, I wish that I knew then what I know now about the Bataan Death March. He told us stories at the time that just seemed to be stories ---- IF I ONLY KNEW! I called him a few years ago and had the pleasure to tell how much he influenced me these past 40+ years.I just finished reading John Grisham's latest book called The Reckoning. Based on the story line, it sounded like Mr. Grisham had read Dr. Tenney's book in his research. I strongly recommend reading my hero's book My Hitch in Hell and The Reckoning. I bought this book, put it down meaning to get to it and then got sidetracked for 6 months. Just read it in the past few days and, man - what an incredible story. I knew little about the Bataan Death March but this book has inspired me to learn more. It was riveting in itself, well-told and, as another reviewer said, the pages turned themselves. I was glad to see that the author, 50 years later, took in a Japanese student and was subsequently invited back to Japan with him as a wedding guest. Humanity at its best, though I seriously doubt that I am equipped with the emotional and mental strength to have not only survived, but survive well as Dr. Tenney did. He truly was part of the Greatest Generation.

Les Tenney was my finance and insurance professor at ASU back in the early seventies, and I vividly remember his stories of the Bataan death march as he wove them into his classes. Les is a brilliant teacher, and his articulate, instructive manner permeates this well written book. At each chapter, just as the reader thinks things can't get any worse, they get horribly worse. The only thing that saved his life were his entrepreneurship and willingness to learn Japanese so he could literally bargain with the guards for his life. He is the only one I have ever met who actually saw the mushroom cloud over Nagasaki. Not covered in the book is the fact that the U.S., alone among its allies, never compensated the victims for five years of hell as slave laborers in the coal mines of Japan, and he has been a tireless advocate of this with Congress, to no avail. A difficult and gruesome read, but you can't put it down. A must read for anyone interested in World War II, and in achieving justice by compensation for these great patriots.

This was a really interesting book to read and one that gave tremendous personal insight into being a prisoner of the Japanese in Bataan and then to Japan. How these prisoners survived is beyond me. The torture, beatings, starvation, lack of medicine, lack of water and disease are hard to embrace and fully appreciate, but these prisoners survived. The story is amazing, but also well told, factual and a good insight into the daily life of a prisoner in Japan.

This novel is about an American WWII soldier captured by the Japanese and what happened to him as a POW. He is a Bataan Death survivor.as well as a POW in the Philippines and Japan. I cannot summarize the story author Lester I Tenney has to tell his readers. I recommend reading this book for anyone who has interest in our US military history. This story is as much a part of the history of WWII as any other book written about this war.Recently, I met a survivor of the Bataan Death March and his story was equally awful. We owe so much to our military and especially all POW''s.

Well-written book about a fascinating man and his voyages, and the Spanish colonization of the New World. I was astonished by both the bravery and the cruelty of the Columbus and his crews. Years of not knowing whether they would ever make it back to Spain; repeated near-disasters at sea; repeated rebellions among the ships' crews; friendship and war with the natives; an astonishing succession of incredible experiences. Bergreen presents Columbus as a man of great strengths and great weaknesses. He was a gifted navigator, and a terrible leader of men. His single-minded pursuit of China and gold blinded him to the implications of the land that he did find.His excessive demands on the local population for gold that did not exist and tribute that he thought they owed the Spanish king caused some, according to Bergreen, to commit suicide by destroying their own crops. Neither they nor the Spanish would have anything to eat. The Spanish never considered trying to be self-supporting. They relied on supplies from Spain and from the Indians. Columbus tried to start a slave trade, but too many of the Indians died on the voyage back to Spain.The book moves along well, with the various conflicts and dangers described thoroughly, but the story always moving forward.Highly recommended, both as an interesting story and for its insight into the relations between the Spanish explorers and the population they met and nearly exterminated.

I am really shocked at all of the positive reviews of this book. I was a fan of this author and was looking forward to this book but it is wholly unreadable. This book has no coherent timeline whatsoever and reads as if it has had zero editing or review. The author jumps around constantly, contradicts his own attempted timeline repeatedly, and fails to tell anything close to an engaging or understandable story. Honestly I can't even finish it it's so bad. Can someone really explain these positive ratings?

Please note the four stars above signify I like the book. I'm not saying it is not a five star book. Prior to Lawrence Bergreen's new effort the best book on Christopher Columbus, as far as I'm concerned, has been "Christopher Columbus--Admiral of the Ocean Sea" by the late Dr. Samuel Eliot Morison of Harvard University.I did find myself reading through Dr. Morison's book on Columbus easier than Bergreen's new book on Columbus. Mr. Bergreen appears to have done considerable research in his book, but I did find myself being told in minute detail of every atrocity committed by Columbus and his men in their quest for the three goals: Gold, Glory, and God. Columbus and his Spaniards were first greeted as gods from the sky by the Tainos or Arawaks, but it wasn't long before violence raised its ugly head. Whereas Dr. Morison's book on Columbus casts a more favorable opinion on Columbus, author Bergreen exposes all the warts of Columbus and his men.Most people don't realize that Columbus made four trips to this new world, and not just the one that initially probably landed him on the island of San Salvador. It's interesting to note that Juan Ponce De Leon was one of those on the second trip. De Leon, as we know on a later voyage, landed on Florida. Columbus was cheated out of having this new world named after him by a scoundrel named Amerigo Vespucci. Read the book and find out how. Both Morison and Bergreen agree on this.Whatever you may think of Columbus he did believe he could reach the east by sailing west, and was willing to take the risk of crossing the ocean to get there. Had he not landed on land unknown to Europeans he and his men would have perished at sea, because their goal was thousands of miles beyond his estimation of the size of the earth.I am reminded of a poem written by Ogden Nash regarding Columbus that went like this:So Columbus said, Somebody show me the sunsetAnd somebody did and he set sail for it.And he discovered America and they put him in jail for it.And the fetters gave him welts,And they named America after somebody else.As an armchair navigator you will enjoy this book, and it is worth your time. Expect a lot of detail which isn't bad if you are comfortable with this.

regardless of claims made by everybody (with subsequent retractions when Columbus became targetable), America was really discovered by Columbus. In 1492. This life is too detailed, even for Columbus, what he ate, drank etc., but it has been done carefully. Columbus (from a Genovese family) was a human being, and had his faults, but his sense of navigation was extraordinary, and we should be grateful that an up-to-date information has been made available.

Outstanding---although at first I thought the author was being a little condescending toward Columbus, judging him by 21st century standards, which would be manifestly unfair, as Columbus lived 500 years ago, I came to see that the author's view was balanced after all. This is the best adventure story I ever read. And that's what it is. History, but an adventure the likes of which you probably won't come across again, at least in the realm of nonfiction. The incredible hardships endured by Columbus and his crew are worthy of some novel, and yet they actually happened, not once but again and again, and just when you think Columbus can't take anymore, he does. And he endures, and he fights for what he considers his due from Ferdinand and Isabella. It is a fascinating story, absolutely spellbinding.

This was an interesting history of Columbus and his voyages. I found it a bit tedious and repetitive at times. Glad I read it but doesn’t hit my top ten.

I loved this book! I was expecting a bunch of organized quotes, and they WERE organized, but the author adds some interesting commentary, fun facts, and also ideas for movies to watch for different occasions, with information about each. I enjoyed the great quote picks, most of which I'd never heard and would love to reference in my personal writings amongst friends.I will recommend this to my friends, for sure!

I was hoping, (after the great introduction,) that there would be many, many great and recognizable quotes from the movies. But the author clearly has some of his favorites and ignores others that should be there. For example, while the are a few from Dead Poets Society, I believe that some of the more important and inspiring lines were ignored.I'd also really have liked to see some photographs - even in black and white - to remind me of those wonderful old movies.But what was most disappointing was the cop out of using huge font sizes just to fill the space. I found them irritating, and before I knew it the book was done. I'd much rather have paid a bit more and received much more content. Pity, because this could have been a great book

I think I was hoping for more well-known movie quotes (and a lot more humorous ones) from this book, however, there is some quality content here and it's worth the buy if you're planning to write a speech or a toast.

My nephew absolutely loves movies - recent ones and older ones too and he said he couldn't put the book down!

Not all the pages are bound. They fall out all on their own. This is poor quality control on the publisher's end.
