A great read! The book provides a lot of practical cases which I can apply in my current role. The principles are very specific and a great reference for improving your design no matter how simple or complex your project is.The content is clear with practical explanations that cover basic design principles up to the central concepts of visual design, usability, and the psychology behind. Some might say that some of the principles are basic but you won't believe how many designers still don't get most of these right (me included). Keep this book within reach, you will find it useful whenever you are having second thoughts on your design decision.There are some great takeaways from this book for anyone who's involved in creating digital products, but I would highly recommend it for UX/UI designers and developers.

I've never had an eye for good UX design. I've read several books, watched tutorials, etc... But this book has actually changed the way I design a website. It contains to-the-point tips that anyone can use to create or improve their website. Not only does it include helpful tips, but the author explains WHY those tips are important by relating it to UX problems we've all experienced at some point. What I find interesting is that many of the tips seem like common sense when you read it, yet many sites do not use these simple practices.Whether you're an artistic genius or someone with the UX sense of a rock (like me), this book can help you. Highly recommend.

I think the best way to use these UX principles will be while talking design with your stakeholders.While it wasn't anything groundbreaking it was still nicely done and well worded. If you're looking for easy to read, or validate your design principles this would be great book.This book would get 5 stars if the author had used one his own principles and categorized the principles for web, mobile etc.Overall good book for new designers looking to understand the core principles or seasoned professionals who want to brush up their knowledge.

Clearly written to help designers pick up and reference UX best practices, the book is packed with UX gems. 101 UX Principles allows the reader to understand both context of why it is a principle as wells as its application from typography to user interface. The references feel relevant and modern and the principles althought could be read front to back (1-101) are easily referenced through a table of contents or even just by flipping through the book. This should be in every UX Designers library.

This is a great practical read for any professional who want to learn how to design successful digital products. It covers a lot of fundamental concepts, all supported by specific examples, technical considerations, common design mistakes and the author’s expert opinion. Each principle is short, easy to read and ends with key learning points. The breakdown by topic (Typography, Iconography, Forms, etc.) makes it convenient to use as a reference when solving real UX problems. I would definitely recommend it as an introduction to UX, but also as a good reminder of best practices for more experienced designers.

Don’t judge this book by its title… it’s not what you’d expect. The chapter headings might come off as trite but without an ounce of exaggeration or hesitation I can say that this book is so much more than its table of contents. “Whatever, God” hits home. It strikes a lot of chords and it strikes them hard.The beauty of Fr. Anthony’s writing style is how he is able to give so much life and context to seemingly common, “heard that a million times”, Christian notions that would otherwise remain ignored. Because of that, the book reads more like a primer on the power of orthodox thought, soaked through with more humor than you thought a man of the cloth could muster, than a Sunday School class made into a paperback.From what he writes and the stories he tells, it’s abundantly clear that Fr. Anthony is not the type to have his head in the ground, ignorant of the reality of the world around him, nor is he the kind of pie-in-the-sky, un-relatable, ivory-tower academics/theologians who analyze the world from afar without ever really living in it. Fr. Anthony has been a priest for nearly two decades and all those years of rolling up sleeves, getting involved in the mess of the world and everyone in it, shows. His message lies perfectly at the nexus of theological truth and non-sugar-coated reality – it’s where dogma hits the dirt and believers start walking the walk.At its core, this book is written by an unflinching realist (it’s not a self-help book, or a feel-good Christian story). It’s full of real stories, real questions, and real struggles. And the mark of that reality lies in the weight of the questions the book poses:For better or for worse, how closely does my image of God match the image I have of my parents?How much of what I think I know of God stems from extrapolations of my own behavior?If He’s all-powerful, then why all the tragedies and suffering? Whatever, God by Fr. Anthony Messeh is the perfect book to bring in the New Year. Fr. Anthony makes a case for fully surrendering our lives to God so that we can experience His goodness, graciousness, and relevance. He uses personal and accessible examples to help readers understand how God can work if we are willing to cooperate with Him and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us. Written in his trademark conversational style, readers will feel like Fr. Anthony is speaking to them personally. Some of his examples and illustrations are ones I will go back to. One of my favorite quotes explains the Biblical story of the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish: “God doesn’t want us to limit ourselves to only what we have in our hands, but He also doesn’t want us to neglect what we have in our hands. He wants us to OFFER what we have into His Hands.” I have also reviewed this book on my blog, beingincommunity dot com.

This is a must read for any Fr. Anthony fans, however, if you don't already know him/listen to him, this book might be a little hard to appreciate. Filled with personal anecdotes, 'Whatever, God', tells Fr. Anthony's spiritual journey from an ordinary run-of-the-mill, middle class, American college student, to the well known, passionate, God proclaiming Fr. Anthony Messeh we know today. On its surface, this book accomplishes the task of delivering Fr. Anthony's spiritual insights to the reader, but on another level, this book tells a relatable story of transformation. Speaking to a generation of privileged, suburban, middle class, millennials (or close to it) like himself, Fr. Anthony says: "you too can let God transform you." I recommend this book to anyone looking for a reason to let God into their eleven-hour work day, their german cars, their cubicle at the IT consulting firm, and their twenty one hundred dollar one-bedroom luxury apartment in Arlington, VA. Once in there, God can work miracles, however, the first step is to want Him inside, and Fr. Anthony's story shows what can happen if you do.

I love this book, there isn't enough good things to say about it. Honestly life changing if you're debating whether or not to buy it, do it. I was a little turned off by the price but I would pay much more know after listening/reading it. I got my whole family now listening to it and recommended it to friends we ordered it while we were speaking. I also suggested it as a graduation gift for high schoolers because this book is crucial at that age. Thank you Father Anthony for this book. If you don't know who Father Anthony is, this book is a great place to start. After finishing this book I started listening to his sermons on the way to school and work and he has me laughing out loud and nodding my head throughout the drive. He's said it before but his calling is truly bringing an "ancient religion to a modern world" and he does it amazingly, may God bless him. Highly recommend!!

This book changed my life - and I mean that literally - not just as a way to compliment the content and the author:) I had the opportunity to hear and meet Fr. Anthony Messeh at his church before reading the book, which was amazing because then I could really hear his voice in this book while reading. It’s truly so powerful, loving, moving, and makes God so relatable as a Father and not a distant God. I haven’t been the same since. Thankful for God’s Word, love and this amazing book! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Not your typical "Christian" book!If you want to understand God better, this book can help. As I read this book I laughed, I cried, and I laughed some more. In this book, Father Anthony sheds light on the depth and implications of God's love for us. He shatters through many misconceptions of God-- and he does so in very relatable ways.Oh-- and the author even GIVES away the ancient, secret formula for success (5+2=5000).I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will be recommending this to all of my friends.

I have read most of Dent's books and enjoyed them. This is his weakest by far. I had high hopes, but was left vey disappointed.Dent made his name on demographics and his spending cycle, which are good tools for directionality but fail to match actual events. He tried to cover this by adding more cycles which stretches reality too far. I have a real problem with his supposed geopolitical cycle and his argument in the book is very poorly done. He has multiple pages of current negative events, but blows off the period of 1983 to 2000 by saying nothing bad happened; ignoring Beirut, Chernobyl, Columbine, Iraq invasion, Tinammen Square, etc. His innovation cycle is supported by some slight of hand that just shows the weakness of the basic argument. All he seems to have left is the sun spot cycle, with such a large time variation to negate its value and no real reason for it to have any effect. His long term cycles are even less credible.A recession is likely coming, but this book doesn't really present anything new for discussion. I expected so much more.

Just about finished with this book and really enjoyed it. Had read the one before this too. I then, out of curiosity, Googled "Harry Dent". You would not believe the number of articles on how many of his predictions have gone completely bust.I like his writing style and his level of confidence. I also like all the data he provides. I would take this book as "one more bit of data for your knowledge base" and not as the Bible as to where to put your money.

I felt like such a fool - I read this, believed it, and made the mistake of repeating some of the things from this book to some people who actually know things about finance and investing. When they found out where I got the ideas from, seriously, they almost wet their pants laughing at me. "Hoo hoooo - Carol bought a Harry Dent book! Hahahahaha!" Then I found out that he has written the same predictions with different dates for years. Years and years, in book after book. Nothing has ever come true the way Harry thought it would, but he is still selling books like crazy, to suckers like me. And like you, if you buy this book.

Harry creates a fear factor and then attempts to sell you his services to save the day. Old scare tactic that has been around for years. He already missed his prediction that the stock market bubble would bust the end of 2017. He does not know what triggers the bust and that is critical to forecasting markets. Book contains lots of historical graphs, but again hindsight is always a 100%. In general it is a good history of previous market busts, but I would not count on him to forecast future busts in a timely maner.

The Market cycles up & down eventually, simply wait and it will happen. This down trend was originally suppose to happen last year so this book HAD to be updated. The last chapter is only available online and it's a sales pitch for Dent's various newsletters. He has some interesting ideas. Do your own due diligence and you will grow your portfolio much better.

More of the same recycled predictions, of which I have yet to see any from prior books come to fruition anywhere near the timing stated.

Fascinating read but harry Dent spent 300+ pages defending his prediction and about 5 pages an action plan if he's correct. I'm glad it wasn't released to public until Jan. 2017 because for those who might have taken his advice in late 2016 would have missed out on the Q4 run up in the market after the election. I have read at least 2 of his earlier books and while I do believe there will be a correction in the market coming, it proves that no one, not even Harry Dent, can predict the future with certainty. Still an entertaining read though.

It’s fun to read self proclaimed experts when the book is around 2 years old. I hope nobody acted based on his recommendations. “ in 2017 the Dow will be down to 4,500” if you believed this and went to a cash position, you couldn’t ride the wave to 26,000 in 2017. It’s just a goood lesson about how you can’t believe these prognosticators.

If you want a look at the operation of his “little grey cells” this will give you an insight into the thoughts of the contributors he edits regarding whom he says: “We chose the people we learn from.”What we have here is a Situation Report (SitRep) on the status of the greatest social experiment of our lifetime called “The All Volunteer Force”. I say greatest social experiment because what is at stake is the survival of our nation as we know it. Can this nation or any nation survive a continuum of internal and external threats protected by a mercenary armed force without a formal declaration of war? This tome gives a snap shot of one aspect as to the answer by addressing the question as to the current health of the relationship between the military and the civilian sectors of society.What seems to be missing is an evaluation of the impact of the political decision to selectively call up segments and individuals from the Reserve and National Guard communities to serve on active duty in the war zones. There are those who claim that one of the great failures of the Vietnam War was the decision to not activate the reserves and saddle the military with “Project 100,000” in an attempt to have a guns and butter society. This fainthearted approach satisfied no one. Forty years later we witnessed our neighbors silently disappearing for months and years at a time slipping off to war and then struggling to integrate back into the community and job with great difficulty. Qui bono?Additionally, we had myriads of service members serving joint duty in war zones with members trained in a manner totally different from them. In 2010 a senior combat officer remarked to me that the USMC could not function in the war zone without direct support of American sailors. Guided by a few themes that bind the separate contributions, this book breaks new ground in civil-military relations and raises questions that may plague the interagency decisionmaking process in the Trump administration. It is edited by Jim Mattis, now Secretary of Defense, and Dr. Kori Schake, who served at the White House, Department of Defense, and State Department. In 2017, Schake is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution.One of the themes in their introduction is a narrative for the individual chapters, “Choosing war is the business of elected politicians in America; fighting war is the business of our military.” But not so fast. One of the contributors suggests there must be interplay between the civilian and military, so the two can enhance the national interest. And within the executive branch, there needs to be recognition that civilian control of the military requires each side to know the other’s perspective.This situation is like a civil-military version of the chicken-and-egg problem. At issue is what comes first. Civilians in the executive branch want to give the president a sense of options; without knowledge of constraints and standard operating procedures of the military, however, the process can spiral into uncharted waters. With little comprehension of the complexities of military planning and operations, senior civilian leaders may overestimate military capabilities, such as establishing a safe zone to protect Syrians and other unfolding situations.Per a contributor, “Without political and strategic direction from the White House (How much money are we willing to spend? How many troops are we willing to move? What trade-offs are we willing to make in terms of other ongoing operations? What constitutes success?), military personnel could not properly advise their civilian counterparts.”The “what comes first issue” remained unresolved in the book. Let’s hope this issue is resolved for the first crisis bubbling up—establishing a safe zone in Syria. An inexperienced White House team of President Trump faces a seasoned military under its Secretary of Defense Gen. Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford.Responding to the idea of establishing safe zones in Syria, Chairman Dunford testified before Congress in September 2016 that, “For us to control all of the airspace in Syria, it would require us to go to war against Syria and Russia, [and] that’s a pretty fundamental decision that certainly I’m not going make.” In late January 2017, President Trump decided to establish safe zones in a Syria to the consternation of military planners. Joint American-Russian airstrikes conducted in late January, however, could mitigate the risks, so long as the ceasefire holds.The bottom line? The Mattis-Schake volume is a riveting window into an uncertain future in civil-military relations that continues to unfold as breaking news each day. Hold on to your hats: There are bound to be more potential crises like the one in the making about safe zones in Syria!
