Excellent book! It is the Bible in novel form. I have recommended this book and sent this book as a gift to several people and they loved it! For those struggling to get through the Bible, this book puts it in a narrative form which was the first way I was able to get through the entire Bible. It’s pretty true to the Bible; but of course the Bible is always the number one source and should be depended on first and foremost.
The Bible as a novel...What a good heading for this book! It truly was a good read. I had to stop several times to check my Bible to make sure the stories were the same, but they were. To those entering the Lenten season, I highly recommend this book
I guess I expected this novel to be an easy to read version of the Actual bible and all of the stories in it...it WAS a compilation of a few of the stories, but not all, as I had hoped. I DID give this novel 4 out of 5 stars though because it was a very well written story on an area that I was most interested in getting a better understanding . Even though it was lacking a few elements, it had a very clear and concise message through out and it left me very thirsty for more (IN A GOOD WAY!!) that actually encouraged me too buy more books (such as "the living bible") and really get to work, learning the history of the bible and its stories, arming myself with the word, receiving revelation and blessings, walking in righteousness ( not self righteously;) and to move forward calmly and confidently, to do the Lord's work :)
I read this with my daughter almost every night. It brings the classic stories of the Bible to life, has been a great catalyst for discussion and has made my daughter interested in the Bible more than ever before. But I wouldn't classify it as a children's book. It is so well written just like all of Walter Wangerins books. I live reading it myself
great, but the reader is a little over the top....sounds like he is reading to a child at all times, I am an adult and would like to be read to like an adult. I did not know he would be reading like he was reading to children.
I have not read my new soft back book yet because I had owned the hard back book when it first came out. I loaned it to someone and it wasn't returned so I wanted to get it back in my library. I will read it again as time permits. It's great for anyone starting to read the Bible because it's in story form and you can learn the basics fast.
It's really good. I believe in ready the Bible. Even though I am lead by the Spirit, and am a church secretary, it sometimes is hard to understand. The Book of God is in story form and is easily understood, making it hard to put down. Get it and get closer to our Lord.
Great book by Wangerin - this was a replacement to my personal library of a paperback copy that I read years ago and gave away to a friend. The product was advertised as "like new" (or some description that I interpreted as such) and in actuality WAS new. There was a tiny scuff on one corner of the back cover; not an issue to me since I will read the book and probably scuff it up a bit carrying it around.
