I was thrilled! Having read the original 4 Whispering Mountain books on the McMurray children and loving those, I was unaware that Jodi had years later turned her writing back to the ranch W.M.. I had thought while finishing the originals she had built such rich, full characters, and deep storyline there was a myriad of ways she could continue. Ultimately, she chose to go with the 3 little girls Teagan, the eldest McMurray, had taken in alongside their mother Jessica he married. Texas Blue gives you a glimpse into all 3 girls' status, as they have grown into young ladies who are of marrying age. As they are heirs to the best horse Ranch in Texas and largely socially isolated, the family is left with their Uncles trying to find acceptable potential husbands. Emily, the eldest, hasn't wanted anything to do with any man, (even shying from Teagan until ultimately worshipping her 'Papa'). She cares about the horses and Ranch only. Since she would rather die than spend a week playing prim & proper for upper crust, and all the real family chaperones are away, she sees nothing wrong with getting her friend to take her place among the suitors while she stays with her horses. At the same time, a friend of her family /Texas Ranger/chaperone who has been told he will never even see the ranch, let alone be allowed to meet the girls. He may be a nice guy, but no gamblers without recommendations allowed. He decides when an opportunity presents itself, and he's (+) he is the better man, to take one suitors place. I liked this story being based on the ranch and in the same characters' lifetime. There's ALWAYS going to be action, romance, laughter, and tears wrapping yourself up in a Jodi Thomas novel.

Jodie Thomas is without equal in her writing of historical western romance. I have every book available through Kindle. I just wish all her books were in the e-book format, I sure would buy all of them. Texas Blue is just another example of a book with a characters that you care about, and actually wish you could meet. The story was so well written, it was difficult to put down. I only hope that there will be another chapter to the Whispering Mountain series. I can think of one in particular being what happens to Duncan in relationship to Anne. So, as a big fan Jodie, please consider another chapter in this series. And, if possible, have more of your books put into e-book format for Kindle.

When Lewton Paterson took a chance to find something his life was lacking by joining a group headed to Whispering Mountain, you had to know Jodi Thomas was about to deliver another heart-warming story. And that she did. I have never been disappointed in any of this author's works. She has you laughing one minute and sighing the next. We can only hope the 'magic' of Whispering Mountain continues on with many more stories in the future.

If you read Jodi Thomas's books. Read the whole series they are wonderful.

I always love Jodi's books. But there are three in the Whispering Mountain series that I can't read on my iPad, not available. And that is the only way I can read books.

This was not Jodi Thomas best work. Wanted to read the book because I had enjoyed the previous books in the series. Did not continue to the next novel due to the fact was slightly disappointed with this one.

I love series and the way the story go on and on. This book will not dissapoint you if you are a fan you know how I mean. If you remember this girl when she first came to the ranch and how much she had to overcome then you will love her ending with this special guy.

This is such an amazing cookbook! I've followed Tieghan's blog for a few years and always enjoyed her recipes and this cookbook is no exception. I've cooked 5 or 6 of the recipes so far and they've all turned out great. The butter chicken actually tastes like it came from a restaurant; I usually find that homemade indian dishes never have quite the same spice taste. One of my favorites is the Wild rice and Havarti stuffed acorn squash. It is to DIE for and really quite easy to put together. We will definitely be eating this again. The pizza with the brie was a combination I did not think I'd like (it sounded weird), but it turned out really well. I already have the ingredients to cook it again. I made the Earl Gray muffins for a brunch and got so many compliments on them!There is a nice range of vegetarian and meat recipes as well as some sea food recipes that look pretty good (I'm not a huge seafood fan). I will say the desserts are mostly chocolate based so that may or may not be a plus for someone. Every recipe has the most beautiful photos to go along with it. There are some nice little excerpts before the recipes that talk about the ingredients or the inspiration for the dish. Many of the recipes suggest substitutions for meat or ingredients or alternative cooking methods.I look forward to cooking more recipes and hopefully seeing another of her cookbooks in the future!

If you follow this blog and are familiar with her cooking style then this cookbook will be exactly as you would expect from her. One of the things that attracts me to Tieghan's recipes is her ability to incorporate so many colorful vegetables into one meal, and this in turn makes her recipes vibrant and exiting to create and eat at the end. Yes, some of her recipes are more involved with multistep components (e.g. making a unique sauce), but most of the main entrees revolve around putting your effort into preparing the protein, and then the extra flavor additions come from the simply prepared (or raw) vegetables, with the addition of possibly cheese, fried or poached eggs, and a grain (also easy additions). Thus her recipes give you the option of swapping out vegetables or grains you may not prefer, and she states this early in the book, that her recipes serve as a guide for you to build on and experiment with based on your preferred additions (don't like her recommended cheese or roasted vegetable, swap it out for another). This is a great cookbook to look at on the weekend, pick all the vegetables you want to eat that week, and then use all of them in a few of her recipes that week.My only complaint is that she doesn't add estimated times for each meal, so you'd need to read closely so that you can plan ahead to determine which meals can be made on a weekday vs which are more complicated and might be a weekend meal.

I have a LOT of cookbooks that I bought thinking I will use a lot of its recipes then they ended up collecting dust on my bookcase. NOT THIS ONE! There is so much I love about this cookbook. The recipes are unique, make me think outside the box, teach me something new, but not completely unapproachable. No fancy ingredients you can't pronounce or dont know whete to find. The recipes use eaay to find ingredients with a couple twist to be not just feasts, but feasts for the eyes. Even if you don't cook, this is the kind of book you would want to just keep on your coffee table looking at the gorgeous pictures. After I got the book I made one of the recipes from the breakfast section. We LOVED it. The author also encourages creative liberty with following the recipes so you can make all of these recipes pretty much your own.

This cookbook is a great resource for any home cook, both for those who already know HBH and those discovering Tieghan for the first time. I stumbled across HBH a few years ago looking for a beer bread recipe and have been following Tieghan's blog ever since. I've enjoyed everything I made off her blog, so I pre-ordered this hoping to find more of the same amazing, crave-able, doable variety plus great photos of every dish. Unsurprisingly, Teighan exceeded my expectations.The HBH cookbook contains the same mix of healthy and decadent offerings, ranging from meat-y and cheese-y to vegetarian, as the blog does. At first glance, I thought there were a number of recipes that overlapped with the blog, but actually they've all been tweaked (updated? improved?) a little. That 5-ingredient beer bread which first won me over is here, in a different (and better) iteration as a honey beer bread. It tastes even better than the original. The cheesy quinoa bake from her blog is here but again, slightly different (and possibly a little healthier). Similar story for the French onion soup (now Irish French onion soup). The only obvious exceptions are items like the butter chicken, which is on her blog to feature this cookbook release.So far, I've made that beer bread, the amazing corn and blueberry salsa, the BBQ short ribs, the ginger-miso eggplant, and the miso beef and ramen noodle stir-fry (I didn't cook my steak quite as long as she cooks hers). Everything has been exceptional, well-balanced, and totally approachable for any one interested in cooking at home. You'll need some pretty standard spices, and perhaps a bit of patience for long and slow cooking, but otherwise there are no fancy ingredients or expensive kitchen items required to pull these recipes together.Tieghan has a great voice, and interesting story, and shares recipes full of bold flavor that have been clearly well-tested.

When I purchased this Guide there was nothing said about it being available only in the cloud. I bought the Kindle for my wife, so when I downloaded it I wanted to make print copy to give to her. It will NOT print--just get blank pages. So, I am stuck with telliing my wife that if she wants to use the Guide she has to use my computer and can only read it on the computer. If I knew this up front I wouldn't have bought this guide.

What this little ebook covers for the Kindle Paperwhite is informative, helpful, and clear. However, I thought that something named "the ultimate user guide" should be extensive in its coverage, and this ebook is not (a fact mentioned only in the Conclusion on the last page of the ebook). I really wanted a complete discussion of setting up Collections and keeping them synchronized between multiple versions of Kindle reading software on different devices. Collections are not mentioned here at all, among other things. But it is good for what it has.

since my first generation glass shattered while traveling. while I like the paperwhite (due to the back lighting), I do miss my 1ste generation with the actual keyboard (I have big fingers). anyways, when I got the new paperwhite it didn't have any instructions with it, so I bought this. for what it is, it's ok.

The Kindle Paperwhite user's manual is well written and answers a lot of questions that we tech challenged people have. I would recommend it for any user that is at all unsure of how to handle their device.

I could figure out everything in this without the 4 page booklet. I expected REAL help. Waste of time and/or money.

Short. Does not address key issues. Should be a Freebie. I just deleted it as a worthless use of bytes

It's been awhile since I read this, so unfortunately my thoughts aren't fresh and I can't remember specifics. Nevertheless, heregoes: as an academic economist, I liked the book, found it interesting, and liked being walked through lots of interesting facts and data, on stuff like convergence of prices after increases in shipping technology, and on immigration to the new world. Yet, I also felt that the book had no really coherent theme, as material for the book was seemingly chosen out of the authors' published academic papers. As such, it seems like they completely punted on all the important questions about trade, tariffs, and industrial policy. Hajoon Chang writes books with the provocative thesis that no country has ever gotten rich on free trade, and that the protectionism allows countries not at the technological frontier to get there quicker, and, he says, mainstream economists don't believe in this for purely ideological reasons. What are Williamson & O'Rourke's view? As mainstream economists, they almost certainly do not agree with Hajoon Chang. Yet, they give no intellectual counterweight. They say little to nothing about it in the book, which can only lead one to the conclusion that they had not thought seriously about the most important topic falling within the rubric of "Globalization and History". That's a damning critique. (Although, it should be mentioned that O'Rourke has a more recent paper which concludes that countries with industrial tariffs grew faster (from 1870-1913), which is actually supportive of the Chang view...)

I am an economist working on globalization issues, interested in history and economic history. I found this book an excellent study that puts globalization discussion in historical (19th century) context, a period of large international capital flows and even larger human capital flows. Th study uses data on these mass movements in production factors to empirically test/uses the standard international trade Heckscher Olin model on income and factor price distribution in trade. It shows that these mass movements had indeed measurable effects on income distribution following some of the model predictions. Problems of globalization in economic terms are indeed linked to the income effects of several groups in the economy following the opening up to increasing trade, investment and migration flows. All too often these discussions are marred by lack of data and lack of historical awareness, and i found this study filling a real gap. It surely will be contested but i found the analysis interesting and well-written. Recommended!

I would agree that this is a very good book in terms of presenting what happened in the 19th century Atlantic economy. I do have one critical observation. The authors blame the collapse of globalization on the lobbying of particular industries; thus setting up the argument that general gains from trade were lost to special interests. This is in accord with their belief that globalization is a good thing. As an economist working on these issues for many years, with experience in government as well as academics and the private sector, I have to disagree. Clearly, governments need to rally constituents to support policies. Yet, from our own Alexander Hamilton to Germany's Otto von Bismarck, and a host of others, states had a strategic vision of what was in the national interest for which they sought support. This is the origin of the "iron and wheat" alliances that O'Rourke and Williamson credit with undoing "free trade" on the continent. This was a strategy of national economic development and strategic independence under which the major powers were able to successfully increase their economic growth rates. For evidence of this I would recommend Paul Bairoch's book Economics and World History (Univ. of Chicago, 1993). As the great economic thinker Joseph Schumpeter observed "the consistent support given by the American people to protectionist policies...is accounted for not by any love for or domination by big business, but by a fervant wish to build and keep a world of their own and to be rid of all the vicissitudes of the rest of the world." This is true of most people, most places---which is why the current fad of globalization will not last either.

This book is not an easy read. Especially if you are not interested in economics and lack basic economics terminologies, you'll certainly have difficulties appreciating this book the way it should be. It is, however, an tremendously insightful story of the evolution and devolution of globalizm in the world in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It, in rigorous details, shows how an earlier period of globalization in the late 19th century was self-destructed by the very same forces that established it as a significant force in the global economic system. It reflects how easy it is to lose the benefits of economic globalism which we today often take for granted.

Vikings, the nonfiction companion to Viking Ships at Sunrise, is full of information about Vikings including their way of life, beliefs, and daily activities. It is a great source of information for kids who are interested in learning more after reading the fifteenth Magic Treehouse book. I highly recommend it!

Great read as are all of Magic Tree House books are. My grandson starting reading the series in kindergarten. He is now in 6th grade and has read every one of the books. He decided he was to old to continue reading this series, but when I tell him a new one is going to be published, he asks if I will get it for him.
