We always had large dogs until recently acquiring a 1 year old rescue Chihuahua from our daughter. We successfully trained our adopted dogs regardless of their previous experiences.However, we quickly learned that though little dogs have the same needs as larger dogs they are quite different as well. Their learning curves and the type of care required is more specialized that that of larger breeds. Though our latest addition is intellegent and learning well after two months we were still experiencing potty training difficulties.This book is full of information related to understanding the breed as well as effective training methods and safety concerns. I was relieved to learn that we were on the right track and found modifications that would help ease her transition into our family and achieve potty training goals.I recommend this book for anyone who is considering or has a pupppy or mature Chihuahua.
The seller was MovieMars-Books. I got this book when I got my Chihuahua a few years ago. I hadn't owned a dog in a long time, and I wanted to learn what I could to make life better for him and for me. We also went to an 8-week training class at PetSmart; and that was very good for both of us as well.The book is very thorough and helpful. One of the parts I remember is what not to feed your Chihuahua. Other helpful sections include potty training, learning commands, and diet. There is a section on breading Chihuahuas, but that wasn't applicable for me. It was also helpful when I got my second Chihuahua (there is a chapter on working with multiple dogs).They don't recommend food by name. I recommend that you Google "dog food advisor". It was very helpful and enlightening.Since you can view the table of contents on Amazon by clicking on the book, I won't list all of the contents here. I'll just advise you to buy this book (or get it from the library), if this is your first dog (or your first small dog).
I have owned a chi before and other types of dogs, this book is such a help! I'm only halfway through and Spike is only 5 months old, but so far I've received soo many compliments on how well behaved he is. There are so many tips and useful things to know. My advice is to buy this book before getting your chi and read as much as possible. But its also better later late than never! It has tips for adults and adopted chis as well.If you consider yourself a dog expert and you need to know some insider knowledge, this book is probably not for you. $10 is never going to give you that. :)
This is the best guide to Chihuahuas, from training to health. This has it all. This will be a guide you go to over and over again. I just finished this in less than a week with notations and I will re-read this book again....A must have!
A FANTASTIC BOOK! I AM STILL READING IT WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WITHA CHIHUAHUA. AS THEY NEED SPECIAL CARE. MINE IS GOING TO A TRAINER AND ISON HEALTHY FOOD NOT GROCERY GARBAGE. YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK
I love this book! I read the whole thing and I am going to read it over when needed. I cant wait to get my cute baby chi. It is more informative then many books I have gotten in the past and I love how loaded it is with info.
This book proved very effective for me to train a little rescue Chihuahua who had no skills at all. The breed is extremely intelligent and within a week she was doing tricks! By the end of 3 weeks we were the best of buddies and she totally accepts me and minds extremely well to commands. Bobbi is a happy and obedient little dog, thanks to the tips I learned from this book. I highly recommend it.
