My wife and I are are discovering who our ancestors are. Both of us were delighted to discover that three of the folks that traveled to this land that was to became the United States were in our family trees that came over at the same time as the Mayflower and her sister ships. As I was hoping for additional information; all I found were the lists of their names.

Barebones and unattractive, but if all you want is a list of names and dates that you can find elsewhere on the 'net, this works. I will use it for citations in genealogy files.

Rather than buy/use this reference book on Kindlr, suggest you buy a hard copy of this book. It's too hard to use a digital version.

I enjoyed it because some of the people who were on the cauliflower were my ancestors. Very informative. Thank you. Can I purchase a hard copy?

Let me start off by saying I am a college student starting summer classes at UNO for anatomy and phys. I am well aware that this kindle book is for children but it was great for me as a refresher of my memory! Anatomy and physiology are so broad and immense that books like these are great as a refresher and would be great for children to start learning at a young age all about the body! Especially if you see the medical field in their future ;) I do not have a kindle book but I was still able to download it super easily onto my computer to read and refresh my memory. Overall it was a great purchase; especially for kids to start learning all about the body or as a refresher for college or high school students enrolled in hard anatomy and phys classes! As a disclaimer, I received the product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest opinion.

What I really loved about this book is that it really gave a great overview of the human body and a few of the processes our amazing bodies perform every day. It covered: The skeleton, the musculoskeletal system, the brain, skin, heart, lungs, liver, stomach, kidneys, adrenals, pancreas, red blood cells and platelets, eyes, teeth, nose, and ears.My 9 year old son found the facts listed about each system interesting. As a medical professional I enjoyed the quick facts regarding each system and thought the reading level was appropriate for beginners, but some of the labels on the pictures would be hard to pronounce if it was the first time reading them.I didn't give the book 5 stars because you can only view one page at a time in the e-book. It was obviously meant to be read side-by-side, the picture with the facts. I was also bothered that there didn't seem to be a logical organization to the book, there was not really an introduction or conclusion and the body systems were not in any particular order (for example, the heart, blood supply, red blood cell and platelet sections would have been appropriate to place together, but they were mixed in at random with the rest of the topics).Overall, if its a free e-book and it gets your kid reading about the human body, great!I received this book at a discount for an honest review, enjoy.

I found it to be redundant and confusing. I work with 3-6 yr olds and was pre-reading this for useful materials. I am really disappointed. It perpetuates several myths about brain and body functions and is absolutely not up to date. My students may be young but they still deserve accurate information. I found that their pictures are not very well labeled and clear. I can think of four different books in the shelf at school that are older and still better than this one. My kids are voracious readers and listeners and ask a thousand questions, redundancy loses their interest and not having good organizational flow makes it hard for them to remember the information.If a student asks why is our blood red, how will I explain that, where do I begin, where do end? A child who asks that basic question, usually at age 2-4 yrs old, is looking for a clear answer that provides them with a jumping off point for more questions. So I need to be able to accurately describe the entirety of the circulatory system and introduce at least one new vocabulary word per page or paragraph. These words need to be scientifically accurate as well. If a student draws a picture based on one of the pictures in the book and then labels it, it needs to be well-drawn and not too cartoony.I got this book for free for my honest opinion. My honest opinion, please update your info and streamline it.

I received this Kindle book for free using Amazon Review Trader. With that being said ...I really love this Kindle book. I work with children, mostly ones diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I write programs to help them learn from working with at-home service providers. I've also worked as a substitute teacher for special education programs and as a private tutor for various subjects. From my experiences, and current occupation, I really love books like this. Especially for helping children learn about harder to explain topics.Why I like this book,1. This book has various types of images. The images range from very detailed and realistic pictures, to simplified pictures that are easier to gain general knowledge from.2. Fun facts. The book contains a lot of information blended in nicely among all the images.That's basically it. It has a lot of great pictures, both realistic and simplistic. Great for teaching at various learning levels. And it has a lot of good information. That's all you need and want from a book like this. And I love that it's a Kindle version, because you would almost never remember to have a book like this on hand when you needed it. It's the perfect kind of book to be able to pull up from your Kindle app, or on your Kindle in general, when you need to use it for teaching children about anatomy and physiology.

What do I want for my loved ones? It is not necessary, it is not more hygienic, meaningful or respectful to continue with the traditional American ways of death or burial. There are many paths and it’s OK.

While her first book, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, was a collection of personal stories from Caitlin, From Here to Eternity is a story of others. 'From Here to Eternity' is a very interesting look at the various death practices of different societies or subcultures throughout the world. It is by no means exhaustive, but gives the reader a sample of what types of ways that death is handled. My only criticism is that it reads like a series of individual chapters / vignettes and lacks somewhat of a cohesiveness that an overall examination would possess. I often was looking for ways to link the chapters beyond the overarching topic of death, and I couldn't find it. It might have been interesting to understand why the author chose the locations she did, in what order, and how she moved from one to another (other than via air travel).Overall, a really neat book well worth the read. I am looking forward to more books by this author!

I love this author and I enjoy her videos on You Tube. This books exams death practices in different parts of the world in a compassionate manner. She is really teaching us, with her humor, intelligence and her gift for telling story telling skills, to be more open and comfortable about the dying process and alternative ways to plan a funeral. She has really opened my eyes about the funeral industry and unnecessary costs. I enjoyed her first book as well.

Finished within a day of receiving it because I did not want to put it down! The writing style is fun and attention keeping while still maintaining composure. As for the content, this was a great exploration into different cultures. This is a great book to introduce oneself to multiple cultures and to a variety of aspects in the global community surrounding death. A great read that I would highly recommend!

Five stars from me! How interesting to learn about death rituals in other societies.The death practices that Americans see as "normal" versus those other cultures view as "normal" highlights just how unique each culture truly is. From the high-tech to the hands-on this book takes a look at many different customs and beliefs that are deeply meaningful to those involved, regardless of how strange they may seem to us. I love Caitlin's honest and quirky style and can hear her voice in the pages of her book. I've been following her "Ask a Mortician" YouTube series for several years and read When Smoke Gets in Your Eyes on the day it was released. I love it all! Through her hard work, dedication and encouragement of honest conversation, she is spearheading a movement in America to change the way things are "normally" done, explaining there is a healthier, better, more meaningful, MUCH more affordable way to deal with the inevitability of death and how we handle things before, during and after. This is a great read and gives such interesting insight to the world around us.

Another winner from my new favorite author! This one is rich in culture, and makes me a little jealous that these rituals have passed us for whatever reason. Love the Graham theft Parsons reference. One of my favorite movies, I secretly wish when I go that my friends would do.Thanks for another book that makes death less scary.

This is a book for Gysin completists or those who know nothing about him (most people). A lot of the textual information on Gysin in this book is a repeat of all the info that exists in his fairly recent biography and in "Tuning into the Multimedia Age." One highlight are the reproductions of several paintings that aren't in the latter book, as well as candid fotos of him and Burroughs & performance fotos of Gysin. A third of the book is taken up by works from people inspired by Gysin (P'orridge, George Condo...)--more like filler, unfortunately. STILL...this is a great book because it is about a GREAT artist.

Not as well known among the "casual-interest" art crowd, Brion Gysin is extremely important to contemporary art. He inspired artists, poets and musicians, and his work - which is diverse, radical and defies categorization - includes paintings, drawings, photo-collages, installations, poetry and sound experiments. It's detailed for the first time in this book, which is a great introduction to the artist- at least it was for me.The volume offers an up-close look at Gysin's works, through both a historical and contemporary eye, with special attention placed on his inventions. Of special note are a cut-up collage novel, The Third Mind (1965) that he created with William Burroughs, and the Dreamachine he made with Ian Sommerville. The latter, created in 1961, is a kinetic sculpture designed to induce visions by playing flickering light on the closed eyes of the viewer, and something I found to be fascinating. There are excellent illustrations of his works throughout, but perhaps as exciting is the text, photo essays and comments from contemporary artists, which capture and portray a remarkable man who many describe as an "artistic visionary."

There are 14 stories, some of which are obscure, but all have a message.There is the classic tale of a man having to transport a wolf , a goat, and a cabbage across a river without loss. His boat can only hold the man and one of the three items. If left together by the man, the wolf would eat the goat, or the goat would eat the cabbage. The book illustrates two different solutions, each taking seven trips to get everything across the river.Another story is about two fathers and two sons who went fishing and everyone caught one fish. Three fish were caught in total -- how was this possible?The book is illustrated and the writing is clear. My grandson enjoys the stories.

The solutions to the stories are on the back of the last page of the story, so the child doesn't accidentally see the solution.

This is the third book in the series and is definitely one of my favorites. The folk tales are engaging while posing problems to solve. Each story takes about three minutes or less to read. Students of all ages love this series and always ask for these books.They never tire of hearing the tales repeated. Students cheered when I brought in this latest book in the series.

So great! Read these to my middle school students and they loved them! We enjoyed that some were short stories, some were longer, and the difficulty seemed to vary as well.

The stories are good but it is printed on cheap paper. The printing looks like it is just a black/white photocopy of the hardcover book. Actually, it is just a black/white photocopy. Very poor quality printing. Don't waste you money on it. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the stories are good.

350 cards of wordy, unrecognizable, regurgitated, hard-to-read-because-the-font-is-just-way-too-small nonsense. This is not what you need to learn the KEY CONCEPTS of 1L. Believe me, there is no "flash" to these flashcards. If you really want to hurt yourself, buy a hammer and hit yourself in the head. At least the hammer is good for something else after.

print is very small. I think they tried to put to much information onto one card. However, they are right on in following the material.

I love these flash cards. There are SO many of them with so much information and I absolutely love it. Of course, this material is in the books but to have it at your fingertips, arranged in such a way that helps to maintain the knowledge and continue to learn and absorb additional useful information-its awesome. Absolutely love it!

I'm neither a civil engineer nor a construction man, but I've always liked the looks and durability of concrete items. This book is simply wonderful.The author does an excellent job of describing technical aspects of concrete's manufacture and use for the non-technician and reveals some absorbing facts. By and large this is a history of mankind's use of concrete and cement illustrated with mini-biographies of the major players ranging from hypothetical neolithic shamans through Herod, Frank Lloyd Wright, and LeCorbusier. Along the way are stories of a number of fascinating characters you have probably never heard of. It is also a summary of the technical changes in concrete over that time.Also, there are surprises. The author makes a good case that concrete is less fireproof, earthquake resistant, and long-lasting than we might imagine. Although such Roman constructions as the Pantheon have lasted without much repair for almost two millenia, most of the modern reinforced concrete constructions will be lucky to last a hundred years. The author gives a very persuasive explanation for this state of affairs.If I have any criticisms at all, they are two-fold. First, the amount of space devoted to certain personalities does not seem that correlated to their importance. As mentioned by another reviewer, the Frank Lloyd Wright section is pretty long. Second, while the author disclaims any technical expertise, he is downright polemic regarding the ways in which the concrete industry has gone wrong, and sometimes right. I think the jury is still out on some of these issues, and there are reasonable disagreements among the experts.Nevertheless, if you have any interest in concrete as a material for anything from birdbaths to skyscrapers, you should find this book a smooth and fascinating read.

Concrete Planet (2011) by Robert Courland is a decent effort at a book that looks at the history of concrete. This is clearly going to be a heavy, non-abstract book. The lessons of the book will also be reinforced. At some stage toward the end cracks may also appear.The books chapters on the discovery of concrete and it's use and development as far as the middle of C18 are really good. The way that concrete is likely to have been discovered and then was used in Ancient Rome is fascinating. The chapter on the development of Portland cement is also highly entertaining.The book's quality drops when it reaches the 20th Century. Far too much time is spent looking at Frank Lloyd Wright and not nearly enough at what concrete was being used for in the 20th century. The weird study of the construction of the Sydney Harbour Opera House is silly too. Reinforced concrete's role in the construction of skyscrapers, highways, dams, bridges and other C20 icons is really important. Falling Water isn't nearly as worthy of mention.The book finally looks at how modern reinforced concrete structures have a fairly short lifespan of about 50 years. This is worth thinking about and the book covers this well.Materials are a really neglected part of technology at least in general non-fiction. This is a worthy but flawed book that looks at a really important transforming technology. It's worth reading if you're into these things and much of the book is excellent. It's a pity the whole book doesn't attain the same standard.

The history of concrete? I know, the subject sounds about as exciting as reading an old telephone book. However there are some amazing stories within this book. For one, I did not know Thomas Edison, the electrical inventor, had anything to do with improving cement. Nor did I know that one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most beautiful houses was designed and drafted within a day. Also if you have ever been to the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and wondered about the story behind that unusual structure, that story is in this book as well. A great book. Well worth the time to read.

We are "surrounded" by Concrete, yet I knew nothing about its history. I live in North Eastern Ohio and often hike on the Ohio & Erie Canal towpath trails. I always assumed that the surviving ruins of locks and spillways built here in the 1830's were "repaired" using concrete. Thanks to this book, I now know that these were actually designed for and "made" with poured structural concrete in the 1830's....a real engineering marvel! I originally bought this as a Kindle edition, but liked it enough to buy the book for my father for Christmas.

I've been in the concrete business for over 40 years and a 3rd generation concrete finisher, form builder, and contractor. This is the best book on the history of concrete I have ever read, and I've read plenty. It should be required reading for every architect and engineering student. Great read, written in way everyone, both academic and layman can understand.

Good overview of cement history. Provoked numerous questions which is good. Is the 2000 year old Pantheon concrete cracking? Yes, no, why not. Does poz // fly ash react with liberated lime to improve long term concrete quality? How far along the technical road is truly modern, high tech concrete in achieving long term stability, non-cracking material? Nice history review via a specific technical timeline of cement development.

Although I could not put the book down, it sounds strange to say that I’m not sure how to rate it or what to say about it. I think the reason I couldn’t put it down was because I kept thinking there was going to be more to it. I loved the concept but really couldn’t understand what her connection was to some of the five. With the exception of her boyfriend/fiancé, the storyline was pretty predictable especially when it came to her father issues. The issues she had with her best friend were really immature and didn’t really make sense as to why she was invited. The professor was a big question for me too. There was never really any connection in the backstory as to his importance in her life or why we should really care. Of course, inviting Audrey Hepburn was understandable because who of us wouldn’t name someone famous as our five. All in all, the book was good but pretty depressing. I would never discourage other readers from reading it. I just found her choices, considering the backstory, a little confusing and uninteresting. The whole story was pretty depressing. I feel she didn’t leave that dinner with any real closure or life changing answers.

While the book was written well, UGH. Horrible, depressing ending, no resolution to the 'heroine's' angst, etc. OMG, such unresolved issues. I feel like throwing the book in the trash!I was intrigued because I would love to invite Audrey Hepburn to dinner, but after that... Really, an upsetting book. Had I known it was so 'soul-searching,' I would have passed...

I first saw this book at Costco. I took a picture of the jacket on my phone. I am so elated I did. This novel made me happy and sad....I enjoyed every moment. In fact, I didn't want it to end...but it did and it was lovely. You'll cry and its a good cry.

This book was an interesting read. Dream guests at a dinner party is always a great topic, and I’ll admit my love of Audrey Hepburn and love stories is what drew me to this book. The twist with the boyfriend/fiancé was a clever one, but as I turned the last pages of the book, I found myself wishing there had been more to it. It was delightful at times, predicable at others, and depressing in between. I did enjoy it, I just wish we saw a little more background to the other characters. And more Audrey Hepburn is never a bad thing.

I absolutely adore this novel, it's ending, and recommended it to all of my friends and family. It is a charming, sometimes sad novel based on the idea of inviting whomever you would like, dead or alive, to a dinner party. This novel is a quick read and would be great for a weekend trip or shorter vacation.

This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and kept me engaged through the last sentence. It’s a beautifully written book about love, loss and family. One of my favorites of 2018!
