This was the first Rick Steves book I bought, I bought this book before I traveled to Helsinki as I also planned to go on day trips to St. Petersburg and Tallinn and this seemed like a good choice.Ever since that purchase I don't go to Europe without buying a Rick Steves book for my destination, I love his style, the way he explains so much about the history of the place in a very "down to earth" way and with a lot of humor.Since that trip I also visited Madrid and Prague using his books and it's been amazing, my Prague visit was my second time to the city and I can't believe how much more I saw and learned because of his book.I'm planning a big trip to Europe this summer and while I don't know which cities I will visit I know I will buy the Rick Steves book for each city once I have decided.

Great story. My girls got an opportunity to meet Ruby. She is a charming woman, and great example. Very good story for kids of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrates how the rule of law and determined people who stand up for what is right can change the culture, and continue to improve our great country. It also shows young girls and boys that standing up for what is right is hard to do, especially when many around you are disapproving, even violently opposed to you. But often the hardest things are the right things. And that there are good, decent people (in this example, teachers, federal marshals, judges, friends) who prevail when the (changed) law is on their side, even against norms of the time.

Robert Cole's account of this historic day was good---but I found this one excelled in that it was told from Ruby's viewpoint!I always loved Norman Rockwell's painting of Ruby being escorted to her first day of school by U.S Marshalls ! As a teacher who had her first class in 1962----it was hard to believe the struggle that was going on two years before in New Orleans!!This year -I had the pleasure of meeting Ruby's teacher--Barbara Henry here in Massachusetts!! After my visit with her---"I Googled" to find out more about the grown up Ruby and was delighted to see her meeting Clinton and Obama at the White House-----and having a heart-felt reunion with Mrs. Henry on the Oprah show!!! An inspiring story and a tribute to her extreme faith in God!!

This leveled reader is great for introducing lower elementary students to an historical figure. I use these readers for English Language Learners as well, especially for pre-teaching vocabulary before a unit. This book has real photographs. Sentences are not too long with only 2-5 sentences per page. Perfect for engaging the reader.

This was beautifully written....from the perspective of Ms. Ruby when she was young. Easy for children to understand. I had my spouse even read it, just because he never heard of her....which was no surprise...schools only focus on one African American figure...Dr. Martin Luther King. Since schools do not do their part in expanding on the other people who also help change history....it is my role as a parent to expose my children to the "underexposed" history changers.

Great for differentiating for my second graders. Went well with the "Rookie Biographies" as well as The Story of Ruby Bridges. I have such a variety of readers in the class I need a way for all readers to access the same content. I really appreciate that this had actual pictures as well. It sparked some good discussions with my students and went well with a Social Studies lesson on compassion.

This is a fantastic book, totally age-appropriate for the 5-7 set. As others have noted, the photos show language that is no longer used to talk about African Americans, as well as language that we never okay, but I was able to have a conversation about those words that I *think* set the groundwork for more nuanced conversations down the road.

Ordered it so my 6 year old can write a report for school.We found it an easy read and hit all the key points that should be explained for this level reader.

Important narrative for children and adults to understand the Civil Rights movement in the 50th Anniversary of MKl' s death.This little girl and her family have a story to tell in 2018 where racism is still prevalent in a more covert way. And, as a a woman of European descent, I need to Be Awake.

I feel there could have been better coverage of some thinkers, but this is quite good for what you pay for. I had to buy this for a class and feel it was one of the better books I have bought. Decent coverage of thinkers such as Locke, Hobbes, etc.

This collection offers the best quality for the price. I plan to assign it for my introduction to political philosophy course.No reader of this size will be able to cover everything. Indeed, given the sheer breadth of what must be covered omissions are inevitable. But given these constraints, the excerpts are extremely intelligently chosen. The editor, Michael Morgan furnishes lucid and pithy introductions that provide historical and ideational contexts for a selection of readings that favor depth over the superficial and hyperactive breadth of some other volumes. Included in this volume are often the full classic texts authored by thinkers within the primary traditions of Western political and moral thought, including: Sophocles, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Epictetus, Augustine, Aquinas, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Rousseau, Kant, Mill, Marx, Nietzsche, and Weber.And could you get a better promotion than this from the back flap?: No less than Alasdair MacIntyre writes: "A remarkable achievement ... Hackett is a well known publisher in the Philosophy world, i myself own 8 different books published by Hackett, this one included. Their books are simple and to the point providing the primary sources you need. Classics of Moral and Political Theory is no different. Below is my point by point review.1) Combined for Ease: Hackett has essentially combined the Classics for Political Philosophy into one bound edition. It is easy to read with appropriate font size and layout. Instead of searching to find each book contained in this edition, a person can simply BUY THIS!2) All The Best Together: "This is a wonderful collection of primary texts that will provide instructors with a cost-effective way to teach the basic works of political theory." -- Michael Gillespie, Duke University3) Suggestion: I would suggest if you know very little about political theory to first read an introductory book that will acquaint you with terms and overall themes of political philosophy. This book assumes that you should have that in place before reading it, do that and you will enjoy this book even more!

Some pages were falling out and because of the size of the book the edges were really worn. But it's the right textbook.

Prof Carroll is fantastic in the way he presents particle physics in each of his books/lecture series. He sequences the lessons the way they should be: top-down as theory is known today rather than in the chronological sequence of inventions.So, we are spared the needless horde of particles before their eventual classification or journeys into the much talked about 1900-1950 era quantum mechanics or relativity theories. The author starts with fermions and bosons the way school books start with the constituents of atoms. He works downwards into sub-classifications but only to the extent needed. Even as he talks about quantum chromodynamics and super-symmetries, he is able to touch upon just the right level of details for ordinary readers.The lecture series uses multitudes of common life examples to make the intricate concepts easier to grasp. There is a good combination of theoretical and experimental science - another positive. By far the biggest negative is that the lecture series is too short for such a vast topic. As a result, one always feels a bit hurried and many subjects are covered way too partially.

I like how he leads up to the Higgs field but it is not, I say, not for the average Joe. A book format might better suite most laymen rather than the audio format.
